The grand Deception
Pic: Shalom Shobande
By Shalom ShobandeI was surfing the web recently and I came across a story about President Barack Obama called Hip-Hop artist Kanye West a “Jackass”, the president was asked how he felt about Kanye’s behavior at the last MTV video awards, where Taylor Swift won an award for the best female video, before Taylor could read her acceptance speech Kanye STOLE THE SHOW and announced that the award should have been given to Beyounce for her all the single ladies video…hence, the off-the- mic comment by president Barack Obama.
Stealing the show is an old trade, it happened a long time ago in the bible, when Jacob with the help of his mum Rebekah, stole the paternal blessing from Esau whom the blessing of the first born was reserved. Jacob wore Esau’s clothes, put some hairy skin on himself, cooked their father9 9s favorite soup and organized what we called today THE GRAND DECEPTION. Jacob stole the show and stole the blessing.
Stealing the show sometimes may sound like a good idea, stealing other people’s blessing might be a fast way to get your success; I want you to pause and think for a moment and weight the consequences through the life of Jacob.
Although Jacob got the blessing, but he added enough sorrow to it (Proverbs 10:22), the grand deception cost him dearly:
· He never saw him mum again.
· He stirred up his brother’s wrath, and his brother wanted to kill him .
· His uncle Laban deceived him to slave Labor
· His family was torn by strife.
· His brother became an enemy nation (The Edomites)
· He was on exile for a long time.
The curse far outweighs the blessing; Jacob would have gotten his own blessing anyway, if he had waited upon the Lord for God to come to him at His own time.
We should have a rethink whenever the urge comes upon us to deceive people in order to amass material things, and this cuts across our spiritual life, career, relationships, marriages and academic life, a shot-cut might cut us short of God’s blessing and anointing.
After several encounter with God, Jacob had the opportunity to be restored to his brother Esau, and God made it right between them, if there is anybody we have hurt, we should retrace our steps and try to reconcile with them. May God help us in the mighty name of His Son. Amen. Kanye West has retraced his step and has apologized to Taylor Swift.
