Beit Al-Quran or "House of Qur'an” was inaugurated in March 1990. It is a

typical specialized Museum consisting of several floors and characterized by a most distinctly Islamic design and inside the building is a very distinctive piece of Islamic architecture and calligraphy.

It is located in Manama city on the other side of Al Fateh Highway. The museum displays a unique Holly Quran collection, with the oldest Qurans dating from the 7th century and was built mainly from people’s donations and Gulf leaders. These real works of art are on show in display cabinets, that keeps them at the right temperature and protects them from the sunlight.
Quran collection is written in different scripts: Naskh, Ta’liq, Kufic, Thuluth, Diwani or Mhaqaq, in circles, ovals in very small or very big characters. The smallest Quran comes from Persia and dates from the 18th century. It comes in size 4.7cm X 3.2cm.


The museum consist of different halls beside the mosque, there is The Quran School, an auditorium , display of Arabic Calligraphy, valuable manuscripts from non Islamic countries like China, Spain in addition to Islamic nations., translation of the Qur'an into several languages, a library with 50,000 books some are rare and a conference hall. It also displays great Islamic Artifacts, Jewelry and gold-ornamented glass utensil, indicated the great Islamic heritage arts that have had an influence throughout the world. The only noise you can hear is the fountain flowing and the verses from the Quran being read in front of the mihrab, a real symphony of blue mosaics. This Museum is definitely worth visiting as part of Bahrain touristic landmarks.

Visitors of all religions are welcome and entrance is free, but do ensure you are modestly dressed (no shorts or sleeveless tops). Photography is not allowed in all halls, but only the Mosque and the main entrance hall photography is allowed.

Open Saturday to Thursday 0900 ~ 1200 and 1600 ~ 1800.
