I could hardly
resist a call from Paris where I spent a great deal of my childhood
& youth. After hundreds of suggestions & hesitations,
I just took my two permanent handbags (my seven years old twins)
& went on a tourist trip to the most beautiful City in the
world. Unlike my other journeys , I didn’t visit Ave Montaigne
& Faubourg Saint Honoré where my credit cards usually
explode from my shopping crazes at Cavalli’s, GFF, Chanel
, Jimmy Choo et la, I had made the vow to be a real tourist ,
& visit places I have been only with my school or my mum when
I was a child. I go to Paris more than once a year & and still
oblivious to the Parisian cultures.
I am a typical African Holidays= Shopping + Food + Grooming…
But everything is different with 2 kids to entertain.
So our Program Started the second day of our arrival where I took
the boys to the Eiffel Tower – my last & only visit
being in 1977, where a long line of Italian, Japanese, Spanish,
& even a Yoruba man with his 2 daughters. Africans do tourism!
Amazed, I was…
We went on a ride on the “bateux-mouches”, an historical
tour of the Seine, that allowed us great insight of the bridges,
the Louvres, Assemblée Nationale & Place Concorde,
Invalides, Notre-Dame, Ile Saint Louis ,Saint-Germain des près.
The Boys adored it & when we returned to the Dropping site,
we walked through the Trocadero & had a delicious Dinner in
a Kosher Asian Restaurant on Victor Hugo.
I forgot to mention our tour on the Champs Elysées on Day
one with a trip to Quick where the boys had a ball after we went
to see Harry Potter. And of course I bumped into a few people
I knew as usual on the biggest & fanciest avenue of the world.
My usual places would have been Fouquets & Fouquets Barrière
but hey Kids are priority!!! I hate fast foods…
Enough complaints, not mentioning the fact that Ramadan was to
start few days later & the conditions were not ideal, but
did I have a choice? So Days went by & I scrupulously followed
the schedule I had prepared from home, taking my “crazytwinz”
from one place to the other namely: The “ Musée Grévin”,
the French equivalent to Madame Tussaud where we met SpiderMan,
Michael Jackson, Mother Theresa & even one African Prresident
Abdoulaye Wade. But the Most thrilling experience was meeting
my boyfriend Akin & his family coming from Barcelona, at the
Louvres…Especially when one of the twins got lost at the
Mona Lisa Floor, keeping us stressed for almost an hour.
But Paris wouldn’t be Paris if I hadn’t mentioned
our food tour to “Ladurée” where the best “Macaronis”
on earth are made. We also had the honor & privilege to be
invited to the new “In” restaurant owned by one of
my cousin “Le Palanka” , where an exquisite new African
cuisine was served.
Last but not
least the Euro Disney, it started as a dream come true & ended
in a nightmare , as once again my Son decided to find his way
during the evening Parade. Anyway we still had a memorable stay
& just to remind you that Holidays are a way of connecting
with other cultures & what our children will keep in mind
won’t be the shops but the great moment of emotions &
beauty.
So Feel the spirit everywhere you go & connect with the culture
& history, it feels amazing & exciting.
